Overcome Addiction in Southeast Magnolia, Seattle

Addiction Resources in Southeast Magnolia, Seattle

Seattle’s Southeast Magnolia neighborhood and the surrounding area has many alcohol and drug addiction recovery resources available.

While Magnolia may be gorgeous, it lies directly in the heart of Washington’s opioid crisis. Seattle overdose deaths are at an all-time high. Local drug addicts and alcoholics need to connect with the support networks that can help them get sober.

Recently, King County officials reported that more local residents had died of drug overdoses in 2017 than any other year in the County’s history. More than 260 residents lost their lives to drug and alcohol that year.

And the problem seems to be growing worse. The numbers are still out on 2018, but it appears that overdose rates are climbing.

In order to bring the death toll down, we must connect our addicted friends and family members with resources that can help them get sober. In this article, we’ve outlined a few of the addiction resources available to local addicts.

Drug and Alcohol Detox in Southeast Magnolia, Seattle

There are a number of drug detox programs within driving distance of Southeast Magnolia. These programs are designed to help addicts withdraw from drugs.

Drug and alcohol withdrawal is a notoriously uncomfortable process. When someone attempts to go through it alone, they put themselves at risk of relapse or withdrawal syndrome. While some addicts are able to quit cold turkey, most people benefit from checking into a medical detox facility.

In these facilities, addicts detox under the supervision of medical professionals. Doctors, nurses, and addiction specialists help to treat their withdrawal symptoms. They also ensure that the addict is safe while they withdraw.

Detoxing is the first step on the path to recovery. Professional treatment centers help to make that first step a little easier.

Most insurance providers pay for addiction treatment. Click here to find out if yours covers the cost of detox and rehab.

Drug and Alcohol Rehab in Southeast Magnolia, Seattle

The rehab programs in Southeast Magnolia offer therapy and counseling services for addicts. These programs help newly recovered people to relearn how to live a sober life.

After all, it’s not easy to transition from being an addict to being a sober person. There are often hiccups. Many people experience stress and constant cravings for weeks after they get sober.

Rehab teaches addicts how to manage stress and cope with cravings. It also helps them to recognize the things that trigger them to use. By identifying these triggers, addicts have an easier time fighting the urge to relapse in the future.

Southeast Magnolia and the surrounding area offers a number of different types of rehab. There are inpatient, or residential, programs. There are outpatient, or non-residential, programs. There are some that include detox treatment and some that don’t.

At Northpoint Washington, for example, we provide detox and inpatient rehab services. Our detox patients are able to move directly from the withdrawal process to the rehabilitation process. This pipeline is the most effective path to sobriety for many people.

Alcoholics Anonymous

Alcoholics Anonymous, also called “AA”, is the oldest addiction support group in the world. Founded in 1935, the organization has helped countless individuals to overcome alcohol addiction

AA holds free, daily support meetings in nearly every town and city across America. These meetings are open to the public. They give problem drinkers an opportunity to meet and connect with others who share the same problem.

In these meetings, alcoholics gather to bond over the common experience of addiction. Members are of all different races and come from all different walks of life. The group doesn’t judge based on any of these factors. They simply want to help people get sober.

AA uses the Twelve Steps as its primary tool. The Twelve Steps are a system designed assist people in overcoming negative behaviors. Throughout the steps, addicts learn how to have sympathy for themselves and the world around them. They also learn how to focus their energy outward instead of inward. Over time, this helps people to live happier, alcohol-free lives.

There are a ton of AA meetings around Southeast Magnolia. Anyone who struggles with alcoholism should try one out.

Southeast Magnolia, WA Treatment Options for Addiction and Alcoholism

Narcotics Anonymous

Narcotics Anonymous is a support group for drug addicts. It works similarly to AA. But, this group caters to people who use drugs other than alcohol.

NA members range from cocaine addicts and heroin addicts to prescription pill addicts and marijuana addicts. The group does not judge based on someone’s drug of choice. They welcome anyone who has a problem and is willing to work on getting better.

Much like Alcoholics Anonymous, this organization holds regularly-schedule support meetings. These meetings take place in libraries, churches, school auditoriums, and other buildings. In these sessions, members convene to discuss how drug addiction affected their life. They also talk about what they’re doing to overcome their conditions. Each member listens and offers support while others share their stories.

The NA meetings in Seattle’s Southeast Magnolia neighborhood are lively and well-attended. Any addict who struggles with addiction is encouraged to give this program a try.

SMART Recovery

SMART Recovery is a popular alternative to Twelve Step programs. It offers a similar type of support. But, it avoids much of the spiritual discussion that takes place in AA and NA meetings.

While Anonymous programs help many people get sober, they certainly don’t work for everyone. Some addicts are turned off by the spiritual undertones of these programs. Because the Twelve Steps asks members to find a “higher power”, a lot of people think of them as religious organizations. So, it’s common for recovering addicts to seek out alternatives.

If you find that AA and NA aren’t effective in helping you get sober, you might benefit from a SMART Recovery meeting.

Al-Anon

Al-Anon is a worldwide support network for the family members and friends of addicts. It holds group support sessions for the spouses, parents, children, and siblings of addicted people.

In these sessions, members convene to discuss how loving an addict has impacted their lives. They open up about their feelings and speak honestly about the complex emotions that this situation generates.

After all, it’s not easy to love an addict. Despite the fact that they are our relatives, we still feel angry, embarrassed, guilty, and afraid of the position they’ve put themselves in.

Al-Anon gives people a way to deal with their feelings. Ultimately, it helps them work toward a happier, healthier life.

Alateen

Alateen is a subgroup of Al-Anon. This section of the organization caters to children and teenagers.

Oftentimes, regular Al-Anon meetings are too much for kids to deal with. Many kids benefit from talking about the subject with people their own age. Addiction can have severely detrimental effects on the family unit. So, it’s important that children have a place where they feel safe and supported.

Alateen meetings are typically divided up by age. There is a section for younger children and a section for teenagers. This helps to ensure that every child gets the attention and support they need.
