Narcotics Anonymous
Narcotics Anonymous is another addiction support group. This group was created to help drug addicts overcome their destructive habits.
It’s open to addicts of all kinds: heroin addicts, crystal meth addicts, cocaine addicts, etc. There are many people in NA who are addicted to prescription pills and even some who are addicted to marijuana. The members of the group don’t care about a user’s drug preference. Instead, they just care about the addict’s desire to get sober.
NA is a similar structure to AA. It also revolves around the Twelve Step. Members work through the Steps together and attend meetings where they talk about their progress.

SMART Recovery
SMART Recovery is one of the most popular alternatives to AA and NA. This organization holds support groups. But, it does not employ the Twelve Steps.
Instead, SMART revolves around its own four-point program. Each point helps recovering addicts to live a healthier, more productive life.
One of the biggest reasons why this program is so successful is that it’s non-religious. There is no spiritual discussion in SMART Recovery meetings. This is one of the biggest ways that it differs from AA and NA. Those who are discomforted by the “higher power” aspect of the Twelve Steps enjoy this program.

Alateen is an Al-Anon group designed for teenagers. There are also Alateen groups for children younger than 12, too.
Like Al-Anon, this organization holds free support meetings. Kids attend these meetings to meet others who have addicted parents or guardians. They open up about their feelings and give each other advice. A moderator sits in to guide the discussion and answer any questions that the children have.
According to government data, roughly 1 in 10 children lives in a household with an addict. That’s 7.5 million kids! If you know a young person whose life is affected by a family member’s addiction, it’s important to get them help and support.
