Alcoholics Anonymous is sometimes referred to as AA meetings. These meetings are designed to offer help to those who are struggling with addictions to alcohol. Both men and women attend AA meetings, and this is the perfect place to share how you're feeling, the challenges you're facing, and the issues that led to your addiction. For participants who frequent AA, 12 Steps are discussed as a way to progressively advance through recovery from alcoholism. The main goal of AA meetings is to assist alcoholics to recover from their addictions.

There may be a number of reasons why people might struggle to attend AA meetings in person. Some people may have small children at home, whereas others may work odd hours that make it difficult. These are just a few of the reasons why it makes sense to offer online AA meetings.

The Greater Seattle Intergroup of Alcoholics Anonymous offers several of their AA meetings online. Also, the Online Intergroup of Alcoholics Anonymous provides several options for people in need of virtual AA meetings.

Drug Addiction Statistics in Seattle

There are over 700,000 people living in the Seattle Washington. Being a port town, there is high accessibility to heavy drugs like heroin and methamphetamines. On top of that that, Seattle is not immuned to the prescription opioid epidemic occurring all over the US. Washington has experienced major problems with drug and alcohol abuse. This is why there are also many resources for addiction in Seattle. Here are some of the Seattle drug statistics:

Statistics for Seattle, Washington include:

  • Death from heroin overdose has increased by nearly 60% in the last year.
  • Death from cocaine overdose has been steadily rising in Seattle.
  • There are about 70,000 people in the Seattle area who are regularly using drugs.
  • This includes 6,000 people who have admitted to using stimulants regularly.
  • Nearly 12,000 Seattle residents mix illegal drugs with alcohol.

You’re not alone if you have an addiction to drug in the Seattle area. What matters is that you get the help you need before it’s too late. The rate of drug overdoses in Seattle continue to rise and alcohol is also potentially lethal when you take too much. There are many options to help you get clean.

Some cost nothing to you. You’ll want to go through detox as well as some form of rehab. It may take your family or the law to stage an intervention to help you. It shouldn’t come to that though. Once you’ve gone through the fundamental steps of detox and rehab, you should maintain your sobriety with NA meetings in Seattle.

Narcotics Anonymous (NA) is a well-known and highly respected 12-step program with groups across the country. NA welcomes those who are maintaining their sobriety after completing rehabilitation programs, or may be where a new attendee first learns about rehab programs and what they offer. Attending NA meetings is free.

Narcotics Anonymous of the Seattle Area offers several NA meetings online. They are scheduled throughout the week at various times. In addition, the Narcotics Anonymous website has provided a list of several of their online NA meetings.

There are several different types of online meetings available with Al-Anon. Groups can meet through Facebook Messenger, Skype, Zoom and many other platforms. Many groups have 24/7 accessibility, which can be so helpful for people who need this type of support.

SMART Recovery

SMART Recovery is a non-profit organization that teaches an abstinence-only approach to addiction recovery. Their goal is to bring substance abusers together who all have the common goal of quitting. They rely on peer support, and all of their meetings are free to attend.

SMART Recovery might be a great option for someone who is not interested in attending a 12-Step group. Their approach is very different, and it is based on empowering the individual to want to change for the better.

One of the best parts of this program is that it helps people learn how to live a balanced and healthy life without substances. It has worked well for many people, and it is certainly an option worth considering for recovery.

The Benefits of Professional Addiction Treatment

Even though they can work well for some people, not everyone will benefit from going to AA or NA. When a person is new to recovery, they often need professional addiction treatment. These individuals should seriously consider going through both detox and rehab

Most people do not realize that there are actually two sides to addiction – the physical side and the psychological side. It is important to address both, and when one aspect is neglected, the result is often a relapse, which could lead to an overdose.

Professional treatment centers offer people a higher level of care, and they benefit from the experience of experts during recovery. There is a commitment involved, but most people who choose to go to rehab say it was the best decision they could have made.

About Drug and Alcohol Detox in Seattle

For those who opt for professional treatment, drug and alcohol detox is often the first step. This refers to the treatment that is offered to patients to help with their withdrawal symptoms. Withdrawal can easily sidetrack anyone who intends to quit, even if they are really motivated to recover. But when they go through detox, they have a much better chance of being successful.

There are many types of treatments available for detox. Many addiction treatment programs rely on a combination of both medical detox and holistic methods to help people get through withdrawal.

Detoxing is a vital step that should not be skipped; especially if it is required for a safe recovery. Certain types of substance abuse problems mandate it, such as alcoholismbenzodiazepine addiction and opioid addiction.

The SAMHSA treatment locator indicates that there are close to twenty drug and alcohol detox programs in Seattle. These are all within a 15-mile radius of the city center.

Choosing an inpatient detox program is very important. People need the level of care that they can get in an inpatient setting. Also, when a person detoxes through a rapid detox program, or through an outpatient center, there are many risks involved.

While many people experience mild to moderate withdrawal symptoms, they can become severe. There can also be complications that develop, and when they do, emergency medical care is often needed. With an inpatient program, patients get the medical monitoring they need, and if an emergency arises, it can be treated quickly.

There are a total of four hospitals in the Seattle area that offer drug and alcohol detox. But this form of treatment is not always desirable. A hospital might seem like the perfect place to go through withdrawal, but patients are often isolated from others. Upon discharge, there is no guarantee that follow up instructions will be given.

More often than not, people who go through a hospital detox end up relapsing. Choosing a private program, or even a state program is generally preferred.

Going to Drug Rehab in Seattle

After detoxing, the next step is to enter into a drug rehab. This is also a crucial part of recovery because there, the staff will address the psychological part of the addiction.

Sometimes people are very aware of what caused them to start using drugs. But not everyone is. During drug rehab, many different types of therapy will be recommended to help understand the root cause, and treat it.

There are more than 100 different facilities that offer drug rehabilitation services within a 15-mile radius of Seattle. That leaves people with a lot of options, and that can be overwhelming at times.

Most people find that they need an inpatient program as opposed to an outpatient one. Also, a smaller, private facility is usually preferred over a state-run addiction treatment center.

Seattle Alcohol Rehab Programs

Alcohol rehab is essential for anyone who wants to recover from alcoholism. This addiction is very serious, and yet, many people think that they can simply stop drinking. Unfortunately, it is not that simple.

During alcohol rehab, patients will be able to learn what led to their drinking problems. Once they know that, they can begin to take the proper steps to heal. They will also learn how to live their lives without being reliant upon alcohol.

How Many Alcohol Rehab Centers are in Seattle?

There are over 100 alcohol rehab programs in the Seattle area alone. Many are close to the city center, but there are some that are located in the various neighborhoods nearby.

Online Rehab Options in Seattle, WA

Technology has afforded drug and alcohol treatment facilities with the ability to offer online rehab options. It is possible to attend rehab online, and many programs provide this service for their clients.

Online rehab programs may utilize several platforms to meet with their clients. Video chats can be used for individual therapy sessions, and it is even possible to have group therapy meetings.

Having this option is so important because not everyone can make it to in-person appointments. Online rehab allows treatment centers to meet the needs of even more people who require these services.

  • Information about mental health support in Seattle is available by contacting the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services.
  • Crisis Connections is a non-profit that provides crisis intervention services. They can be contacted at (866) 427-4747 or (206) 461-3222.

  • King County provides access to crisis intervention services at any time of the day or night.
Please call 911 if a loved one appears to be a danger to themselves or to other people.

The Washington Recovery Help Line is the state’s suicide hotline. The number to call is 1-866-789-1511.

The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline’s phone number is 1-800-273-8255.

What to do-Drug Overdose in Seattle

One of the main risks of abusing drugs and becoming addicted to them is overdose. The more a person uses a drug, the more likely they are to overdose. Opioid drugs have always been risky but they are even more so with the new reality of Fentanyl being laced with heroin. You can save someone’s life if you know the signs and know what to do.

Look for paraphernalia around the victim. This will help emergency responders be better equipped.

If the victim is on their back, make sure to roll them over on their side in the event they start to vomit while passed out.

Stay calm and call 911 right away or get them to a hospital.

Symptoms for alcohol poisoning are more obvious than a drug overdose. The smell of alcohol will be the first indication that the person is drunk. The additional symptoms for someone who has drank more than their body can handle includes:

  • The inability to walk.
  • Lack of coordination.
  • Though their eyes are open, they are not able to hear you.
  • They might mumble without making any sense.
  • Their heart beat will slow down.
  • They may excessively vomit.

Again, get the person to the hospital immediately or call an ambulance. Make sure to prop them on their side if they’re passed out in the even they vomit.

An inpatient drug rehab is your best option for a full recovery. This is what makes it the best options for most addicts. The earlier part of your recovery is challenging but inpatient rehab provides a great deal of peace. You are given all the proven effective tools to recover properly. You understand your own personal relationship with addiction and get all the therapy to help you manage triggers.

You are taken care of and educated by knowledgeable addiction professionals. Their experience helps many people overcome addiction. You have access to help around the clock when you’re in rehab so you’re never alone in your initial struggles. You will learn a lot about the disease of addiction and yourself. You also have no distractions because you’re immersing in a program. You can focus on your recovery and healing.

Some people are not going to benefit from an inpatient recovery program. For example,  if you have gone through an inpatient program before, it may not be necessary again. It also may not be possible for you to immerse into a program like this. If you still have to maintain your obligations at home, it’s better for you to do an intensive outpatient program.

There are many options available to you. You may not have the money for an inpatient program in which case, an outpatient program might be better for you. They cost less and your insurance is more likely to pay for it in full. If you don’t feel like you’ve been dependent on drugs or alcohol for that long, you may find that you can attend 12-step group meetings in Seattle. This might just be enough. Do keep in mind that you have to be really motivated if you’re opting to do an outpatient program. You might be more susceptible to triggers as you live your day to day life trying to abstain from substances.

Northpoint Washington: Offering Traditional and Online Addiction Treatment

At Northpoint Washington, our drug and alcohol rehab program is considered to be among the best in the United States. We are located in Edmonds, Washington, and our facility offers inpatient care. Our services include both detox and rehabilitation, which are both available under the same roof.

Our patients are immersed in an intensive program that addresses all sides of their addictions. We offer treatment for withdrawal and all of our patients have individual sessions with their therapist. We provide several types of group therapy, including family sessions.

In addition, we also have online rehab services that are available for those who need them. We utilize telehealth to meet with our patients virtually and meet their unique treatment needs.

Health insurance companies are required to offer benefits for addiction treatment. These benefits include coverage to at least partially offset the cost of both detox and rehab services.

Having health insurance is the easiest way to pay for rehab. Those who do not have insurance should visit HealthCare.gov to get information on a policy.

At Northpoint Washington, we always verify our patients’ insurance and work hard to maximize their benefits. We are in-network with some of the most popular insurance companies in Washington State. We also work with Cobra plans. But not everyone has health insurance. These individuals may need to be more creative when it comes to paying for rehab.

They may want to consider:

  • Discussing their need for funds with a trusted friend or family member who might lend it to them.
  • Applying for a grant through SAMHSA, which would cover their treatment in full.
  • Contacting their local Department of Social Services to ask about financial assistance.
  • Starting an online funding campaign to encourage loved ones to donate.
  • Getting information about in-house financing from the addiction treatment program of their choice.
