Brewster, Washington Addiction Resource Guide

Brewster, Washington Addiction Resource Guide

Brewster is a small city in Okanogan County, and is home to many people suffering from drug and/or alcohol addiction. If you are one of these people, it is important to start thinking about addiction treatment as early as possible. It is impossible to live life to its fullest while struggling with a dangerous addiction. By taking that first step down the road of recovery, you can turn your life into one well worth living.

It can be difficult to take this step, however, if you do not know which resources are available in your area. In your darkest hours, it can feel like there is no one there to help you out of the mess your life has become. This is by no means the case, with many professional organizations ready and willing to lend a helping hand in the Brewster area.

If you have a problem with drugs or alcohol, or know someone who does, our resource guide is perfect for finding out local support groups.

Support Groups and Recovery Meetings in Brewster, Washington

One of the most important things to remember when a detox and rehab program is completed is that the recovery process does not end there. Addiction is a life-long illness, and relapse can happen at any time if continuing care is not sought out. While some of this care can come from friends or family, you can also benefit greatly from the different support groups and recovery meetings that are held in or around Brewster. If you have family members who have suffered at the hands of your addiction, there are even meetings available to help them as well.

Most of these meetings and groups center around a 12-step program. These programs have their core concepts based on faith, and a personal definition of a higher power. Fellow addicts and alcoholics gather together to talk about their problems and experiences, and listen and respond to what other members have to say. These meetings are always very relaxed and comfortable, and provide the necessary setting to help people open up.

Alcoholics Anonymous, or simply AA, was the first organization to offer a 12-step program to struggling alcoholics. All across the planet, millions of people have discovered just how helpful AA can be. Anyone can attend an AA meeting, as long as they are truly committed to finding sobriety. While they do have faith at their center, AA is not affiliated with any religious organizations. Not matter what your belief system is, AA is there with open arms.

Given its small size, there are only a few AA meetings held directly in Brewster. However, they are plentiful on all days of the week with a short trip to Omak, or the county seat of Okanogan.

Narcotics Anonymous, or NA, gives the same type of support to drug addicts that AA does to alcoholics. A 12-step program inspired by AA forms the center of NA's services, which has been tailored to the pitfalls and problems experienced by drug users specifically. While alcoholism and drug abuse are both addictions, the specifics of each can be very different.

There are no NA meetings found in Brewster. There are, however, plenty located in the surrounding towns and cities.

Friends or family member of an alcoholic many times also go through trying times with their addicted loved one. It isn't easy to find the perfect balance between caring for an alcoholic, and not letting that care disrupt their own lives. Al-Anon is designed solely for these caregivers, and provides the same type of support and assistance that AA does for alcoholics. Rather than having to go it alone, the help and support of a group setting is there even if the addiction is not your own.

Children can be especially vulnerable to the trials and hardships that come with having an alcoholic family member. This is due to a lack of experience, and a time in life that is extremely precarious. A faith-based, 12-step program is not the only type of support program available to alcoholics and addicts. A newer addition to addiction recovery is Self-Management and Recovery Training, or SMART. SMART bases its teachings in science, and involves a 4-step program filled with tools and skills taught to control any type of addiction. Because SMART meetings are still growing in number, they also offer online meetings for those without one in their local area.

Brewster has no SMART meetings in its local vicinity. If you are up for a drive, there are numerous that can be found within 200 miles.
