One of the first 12 step programs to ever be created was Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) meetings. These meetings are a fellowship of both men and women who have a desire to stop drinking. Members want to abstain from any alcohol use. They learn how to identify triggers and how to own up to their own actions. These faith-based meetings follow twelve steps and principles. Members learn more about these steps from step studies, book studies and speaker discussions.
Most addiction experts recommend going to at least three AA meetings in a week for optimal results. Members do not need to pay a fee. They only need to have a desire to get sober.

Narcotics Anonymous (NA) was founded shortly after AA. The whole structure of this program copies AA. NA meetings follow the same twelve, faith-based principles and steps. Members learn how to make amends to the people they’ve wronged. NA differs from AA since it only explores drug-related topics. Members can be addicted to any type of substance. All recovering drug abusers are welcomed at these meetings.
Many members find that the daily reflections at the NA meetings help them reflect on their day and become more self-aware of their actions. NA meetings have helped millions of recovering substance abusers become more in tune with themselves.
