Finding the right mental health and addiction recovery resources in Vancouver, Washington is so important. There are many people that struggle with these issues, and many of them do not know where to turn.
Vancouver offers many ways for people to get the support they need. For example, Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous have helped millions of people recover from their addictions. Also, Al-Anon and Alateen are there to help loved ones when a family member is struggling because of an addiction. There are also many government and community advocacy groups to assist people in finding the mental health resources they need.
We know that not everyone is able to get professional help at Northpoint Washington or one of our outpatient programs. But we want to help people learn more about the mental health and addiction recovery resources that are available in Vancouver.
It is important to know about the types of resources that are available. For example, Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous have been instrumental tools in the lives of many people. Families need to know that Al-Anon and Alateen are there to help them weather the storm of substance abuse as well. There are even professional options that a lot of people are unaware of.
We wanted to take this opportunity to share some information about these resources. We are not affiliated with any of the organizations listed here, but we do truly believe that they can be beneficial for those who need them.
People who live in Vancouver, Washington have access to many community and government mental health programs.
There are several NAMI-Southwest Washington support groups being offered in the Vancouver area.
Additional support groups in Vancouver include the following:
The Washington Recovery Help Line can be reached by calling 1-866-789-1511. They offer support 24/7.
The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline can be reached by calling 1-800-273-8255.
Going to a support group can be a wonderful way of getting help for an alcohol addiction. That is what led the founders of Alcoholics Anonymous to start this organization. It has been around since 1935, and since that time, it has grown incredibly.
AA meetings are held on a weekly basis. People are invited to attend them to talk about the issues they are facing, as well as to provide others with support. Those who have participated with AA in the past can testify as to its effectiveness. It has helped millions of people all over the world.
There are several Vancouver AA meetings people can choose from. With so many happening all throughout the week, it is easy to find one that works.

Even though AA meetings are beneficial, they do not allow anyone with a drug addiction to attend to get help. This is a problem for people with other types of addictions. Drug addicts did not have anywhere to turn, which is why Narcotics Anonymous was founded.
NA meetings are a lot like AA meetings. They are held every week, and anyone is welcome to attend, regardless of the type of addiction they have. The people who attend the meetings are very helpful, and very eager to make friends with the other people who attend.
Going to a Vancouver NA meeting can be a great experience. This organization has helped millions of drug users stop using. There are many meetings in the local area.

Al-Anon is an organization that was set up as a way to provide support to the families of addicts and alcoholics. Like the other types of support groups, this one also meets once every week. It is a place for families to come together and offer each other encouragement and help.
It is very difficult to cope when a loved one suffers from an addiction. Al-Anon helps families understand what it means to be addicted and it also teaches them how to communicate with their addicted family members.
There are several Al-Anon meetings in Vancouver and the surrounding areas all through the week. This is a complete list of them.

For young people, it can be very isolating to have a loved one who is an addict. They frequently end up becoming depressed or feeling anxious over situations they have no control over. To make matters worse, they often do not have anyone they can turn to. That is what makes the work of Alateen so important.
Alateen is a part of Al-Anon, but it was set up as a way to help teenagers and young adults. Older children are also welcome to attend some of the meetings as well. The meetings are moderated by adults, but they give young people a chance to talk with their peers about what they are going through.
There are several Vancouver Alateen meetings being held every week. They are listed below.

Of course, there are other alternatives to attending a support group, and that type of help is not right for everyone. It is possible to find therapists in the Vancouver area that specialize in treating addictions. Also, Vancouver does have several clinics that are either free, or that accept sliding scale fees as payment.
What is most important is to find the right type of help that works for each individual person. That is the only way they will recover.
SMART Recovery is an organization that offers an alternative to the more traditional 12-Step program. They believe that science has uncovered everything we need to know about addiction recovery. Their program incorporates that knowledge and offers a peer support opportunity through weekly meetings.
Most people who attend SMART Recovery meetings are very impressed at how well they recover. Their program empowers people to be able to quit. It also shows them how to live the life they always wanted without having to use drugs or alcohol.
There are several of these meetings that take place in the Vancouver area each week.

Although alternatives to treatment do exist, the vast majority of people with addictions need to begin with rehab. A quality rehabilitation program can offer the type of support that can never be found in a support group setting alone. In addition, patients have the opportunity to learn from experts who have helped many others recover in the past.
Someone who is new to recovering may find going to treatment very beneficial. They will receive help for both the physical and psychological aspects of their addictions. Also, if there are co-occurring disorders present, they will be able to get help for them as well.
The best rehabs offer their patients their own treatment plans. They are also careful to help them put together a relapse prevention plan that they can utilize once rehab is over.
Detoxing is perhaps the most important step in the recovery process. Not everyone will need this form of treatment; it really depends on the type of addiction the individual has. Those who are addicted to alcohol, stimulants, opiates/opioids and/or benzodiazepines should seriously consider it. All of these drugs can lead to serious complications when they are stopped. Some may even be life-threatening.
The detoxification process helps people get through the withdrawal phase of recovery. This phase can last between seven and ten days, and it can include mild, moderate and severe symptoms. Most experts agree that combining holistic treatments with a medical detox approach offers the best long-term outcomes.
The SAMHSA treatment locator tool indicates that there are three detox programs in the City of Vancouver. But there are a total of ten within a 15-mile radius of the city.
Please note that patients should only detox through an inpatient program. Outpatient programs can be ineffective, and the rapid detox centers that are available may not be safe. An inpatient program allows patients to receive constant medical supervision. A nurse is always on hand, and the medical team can respond quickly in the event of an emergency or complications due to withdrawal.
There are two hospitals that offer detoxification services within 15 miles of Vancouver. But most people agree that this type of detox is not always comfortable because of the sterile hospital atmosphere.
In a hospital, patients will receive excellent medical care. But their time may be void of patient to patient interactions. They may also not get referred to the right agencies to complete their follow up care. Many do not go on to rehab at all afterwards, and eventually they relapse and need treatment all over again.
Alcoholics experience the best results when they combine alcohol detox with rehab. It is essential for them to understand why they turned to drinking in the first place. Many people are unsure, or they may have started drinking as a way to self-medicate various symptoms of anxiety or depression.
Alcohol rehab helps to bring these and other issues into light. Patients will receive the type of therapy they need to address their own, individual reasons for their addictions. That is a key component of recovery, and without it, most people cannot be successful.
There are close to 70 different alcohol rehab programs in Vancouver, or within a 15-mile radius of the city. They are a mix of both inpatient and outpatient treatment centers.
Most people find that starting with inpatient treatment offers them the most benefits. A lot of programs offer both detox and rehab under the same roof. That makes it very convenient for people to get the help they need.
While there is no need to seek out a program that treats a specific addiction, choosing the best treatment center is vital. The staff should be committed to providing their patients with all the support they need. This is done through designing detailed and personalized treatment plans that offer the type of care that will be most beneficial.
There are close to 70 drug rehab programs located in the Vancouver area. For those who wish to travel away from home to get help for their addictions, there are even more to choose from. There are 110 different options available within a 50-mile radius of the city.
