Narcotics Anonymous (NA) is similar to AA in many different ways. For one, it follows the same structure. NA meetings are also faith-based and follow twelve specific steps. Second, these meetings are also classified as either open meetings or closed meetings, and meeting types are also quite similar. There are daily reflections, step discussions, speaker discussions and more.
The main difference with NA meetings is that they treat drug abuse rather than alcohol abuse. The topics in these meetings are all drug-related. Members may discuss their addiction to prescription drugs, like desoxyn, or illicit drugs.
Many members may abuse more than one drug at a time. This is also known as polydrug abuse. These members may experience slightly different withdrawal symptoms, both physical and psychological.

What Should You Do in the Event of a Drug Overdose or Alcohol Poisoning?

The overdose victim's skin may also start to turn a bluish tint.
You could save the victim's life if you administer naloxone. This medication is one of the many ways that America is trying to deal with overdoses. It's a revolutionary prescription medication will reverse the effects of the opioid overdose.
Naloxone works by attaching to opioid receptors in the central nervous system (CNS). This prescription drug blocks opioids from attaching to the receptors. This prevents the body and brain from getting overstimulated.
It's possible to administer this prescription medication in two different ways. You can either inject the medication into a muscle, like the thighs or the buttocks, or you can spray it into the victim's nasal passage. The drug will begin to work within 5 to 30 minutes. If you don't see any effect, give the overdose victim another dose.
If you've administered this medication, let the emergency responders know when they arrive.
While naloxone is very effective, there's a huge frenzy surrounding this drug. The price for this life-saving drug is soaring. Many people are worried that this opioid antidote will become unaffordable soon.
When dealing with a cocaine overdose, you'll also be dealing with different overdose symptoms. Someone overdosing from cocaine will usually become aggravated and violent. They may be jumpy and may feel as if they're having a heart attack.
Cocaine causes different overdose symptoms because it is a stimulant and not a depressant. After calling 9-1-1, you should:
- Try to keep the overdose victim as comfortable as possible
- Physically restrain the victim if he or she starts to get violent
- Try to calm the overdose victim down as much as possible
Once again, you want to stay with the victim until help arrives. If possible, try to figure out when the drug was taken and the dose that was taken. This information will be helpful to the emergency responders.
Depending on the type of prescription drug that was abused, the overdose victim will show different symptoms. After calling 9-1-1, you should:
- Gather the victim's prescription bottles to see if you can determine what medications were taken and the dose that was taken
- Try to get as much information from the overdose as possible
- Try to keep the overdose victim as comfortable as possible
If the victim overdosed on opioids, like oxycodone, naloxone can reverse the overdose symptoms. If you're not sure what the overdose victim took, don't do anything. Just wait for help to arrive.
