“When you get into a tight place and everything goes against you, till it seems you could not hang on a minute longer, never give up then, for that is just the place and time that the tide will turn.”

-Harriet Beecher Stowe

Al-Anon: Offering Help to the Struggling Families of Addicts

Families often struggle the most when someone they love is a drug addict or alcoholic. They usually feel alone in those struggles, and they believe they have no one to turn to for help. Al-Anon fits that need.

Al-Anon meetings are usually held on a weekly basis. Anyone with an addicted family member is welcome to join in, regardless of their age.

You can find several Al-Anon meetings in Burien, as well as in the surrounding cities. The following is a list for your reference.

Alateen: Providing Support for Teens, Older Children and Young Adults

Alateen is a part of Al-Anon, but it is designated for teenagers and young adults. There are some meetings that will allow older children to participate as well. The meetings are led by adults, but it is a place for young people to come and share their experiences. They find unconditional support and acceptance, which many of them are lacking.

There are many Alateen meetings in Burien, and in the nearby cities. They are listed below.

  • Breathing problems
  • Stomach cramps

If you believe that a loved one has overdosed, taking the right steps is important. Do not attempt to get them to the hospital yourself. Call 911 right away. You should stay with them until help arrives, and be prepared to provide any essential information that the paramedics may need.

Even if you are unsure about the overdose, call anyway. Your quick action may just save your friend or family member’s life.

Is Professional Addiction Treatment Right For You?

It is possible that none of the above options appeal to you because you need something more. You may need a higher form of care, which can be found at an inpatient treatment center.

If you have tried less intensive forms of recovery before, it might be best to consider drug and alcohol rehab. It is a big decision, but it is also one that will be very rewarding.

You should look for the following characteristics in order to find the best alcohol and drug rehab:

  • Excellent reviews on the BBB website.
  • Excellent third-party reviews on Facebook and Yelp.
  • Accreditation through The Joint Commission.
  • Personalized treatment plans for each patient.
  • Referrals for aftercare.
  • An emphasis on creating appropriate relapse prevention plans.

You will need to go through drug or alcohol detox if any of the following apply to you:

Detoxing is the first step you will take in your recovery. You will receive withdrawal treatments to help with your symptoms. This will most likely be a combination of holistic and medical detox methods.
